Accurate Time of Kayalpatnam
 

 

All praise be to Allah Jalla Jalalahu, Salawath and Salams be to kind-hearted Muhammad Mustafa Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and his Sahabas till the day of Judgement. Once Arabic country was ruled by Haroon Alwadiq Billah, a king of Abbas Dynasty cruelly ill-treated peoples like Kuraish, Descendents of Rasoolullah, and Imams and forced them to believe the misconception that Holy Quran was created. But they did not agree his words.

 

In Hijri 227, (842 A.D), peoples from Qarafathul Kubra, a city near to Mount Mukattam very next to Egypt gathered together come to the final decision to leave that place. So they along with their entire family start journey through sea using 5 ships. One such ships headed by Syed Muhammad Khalji, descendent of Hazrath Aboobacker Siddique Raliyallahu Tha’la Anhu, landed to the southern part of India, ie. Kayal, next to Thoothukudi. At that time, Pandiya King ruled that place, he cordially invite the guests and give lands from Kayal upto Udayamarthandan Nagar i.e., Kattu Magdoom Palli, to settle and carry their trading. At that time, the place was called as “Kahirfathan” which slowly changed over to “Kayalpatnam”.

 

In the year 1284 A.D, peoples from Egypt headed by Sultan Syed Jamaludeen, a descendent of Holy Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, come and settled here in Kayalpatnam. Sultan Syed Jamaludeen ruled Pandiyan kingdom for a short period immediately after the death of Sundra Pandiyan in 1293 A.D.

 

In Tamil, the word Kayal stands for the sea and the adjoining lands.  Patnam literally means a city or town.  Hence Kayalpatnam refers to the city adjoining the sea.  Kayal is a very ancient place. Five thousand years ago, it was the capital of second Tamil Sangam, called Kapadapuram. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, in his book Discovery of India mentioned that Madurai was the capital of Pandiyan Kingdom and Kayal their port.

 

Kayalpatnam is not only famous for ancient culture but also for its spiritual power, hence it was called “Small Mecca”. Lot of Quthbs and Awliyas was born and lived in Kayalpatnam.  Important among them are, Periya Shamsudeen Valiyullah, Sulaiman Valiyullah and his 5 sons, Shaik Salahudeen Valiyullah, Kali Alaudeen Valiyullah, Lebbai Appa Brothers Valiyullah, Omer Valiyullah, Thaika Sahib Valiyullah, Mahmood Majdoob Valiyullah, Kasim Pulavar Valiyullah, Muthuwappa Brothers Valiyullah, Ekki Appa Valiyullah, Hafil Ameer Valiyullah (Raliyallahu Tha’la Anhum) etc., Shaffi Shariath, and the spiritual orders Qadiriyyah Tariqa, Shaduliyyah Tariqa are followed by the people of Kayalpatnam. 

 

Kayalpatnam has several mosques, Important among them are, Big Jumma Masjid, Small Jumma Masjid, Meekayil Mosque, Ahamed Nainar Mosque, Kadiriyya Kodimara Siru Nainar Mosque, Maqdoom Mosque, Muhyiddin Mosque, Maraicar Mosque, New Mosque etc., Mahlarathul Qadiriyyah, Javiathul Fasiyathus Shaduliyyah, “Sufi Manzil” founded by  Shaik Abdul Kader Sufi Hazrath Qadiri Kahiri Raliyallahu Tha’la Anhu and “Quthbiya Manzil” founded by Hazrath Jaleel Muhyiddin Qadiri Hajiar are the prominent spiritual organizations in Kayalpatnam.

 

Tamil is the spoken language in Kayalpatnam.  Write Tamil in Arabic Script is very popular once in Kayalpatnam and it is called “Arabu Tamil”.  The first who write Arabu Tamil is Hazrath Hafil Ameer Valiyullah Raliyallahu Tha’la Anhu.  Allama Habeeb Muhammad Lebbai Alim and Allama Noohu Ibnu Abdul Kader Sahib write ‘Tafseer’ (Quran Translation) in Arabu Tamil in the name “Futhoohathur Rahmania” and “Fathhul Kareem” respectively. Pulavar Nayagam Shaikuna Pulavar Valiyullah, “Thirupugal - Varakavi Kasim Pulavar nayagam Valiyullah”, “Veda Puranam – Noohu Valiyullah”, “Gnana Oppari – Hazrath Omer Valiyullah”, “Periya Hadith Manicka Malai, Sinna Hadith Manicka Malai – Hazrath Sham Shihabuddin Valiyullah Raliyallahu Tha’la Anhum are the important scholars of Kayalpatnam contribute part in development of Tamil Language literature through their poems, qasidas and educate Tamil Muslim society for better understanding of Islamic Shariah, Fiqh, Tariqat, Hakeekath and Maghrifath.
